Do you recommend using a secure login device at Interactive Brokers?
If so, which one? They offer "physical cards or electronic number generators that are used to produce unique passwords required to login and trade or conduct financial transactions through IB."
NOOOOOOO, so annoying to key in everything when there's an important trade...fax in a form to get that stupid id card removed! my advice
Yes I recommend it. I am a fan of added security. It really does depend on whether you'll be logged in all day. If so, go for it. If you are frequently logging in and out (or using webtrader), then don't do it as it will slow you down.
The electronic number generator is far faster than the card. that is what I use.
I support the feature, with reservations.
The extra security is nice. Most brokers do not have this, and its very cool, but annoying to have to deal with unless you have the card handy and are in one place and log in in one place. You log in BEFORE the important trade each day anyway. Do not log on and in, that would be annoying. But the re-log in on timeouts only require the PW, NOT the matching card number affair you go through initially. You just have to use it under certain conditions consistently, adjusting for individual circumstances.
You cannot know how important a touch pad mouse click entry with the matching random generated numbers applied to the card is UNLESS and UNTIL a virus with key logger functions hits your pc, as it did my old computer. This is the ONE THING I do like about IB, they saved my life due to this security feature, which beats hackers if used right in most cases. It only takes one disaster like I had to swear by this!
Since IB has said they will not ALWAYS refund hacked accounts, despite their web site boasting of insures of losses in high figures, the ID card is even more relevant. Sets them apart in this business to have that extra insurance policy...
